BERLIN, NH – Two people were airlifted to the hospital with serious wounds after two ATV rollover crashes in Jericho State Park in Berlin this weekend, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.
The first of the crashes happened on Brook Road at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, as 31-year-old Michael Ryan, of Gloucester, Mass., braked while coming down a corner on his ATV. He lost control of the vehicle and then overturned and was pinned beneath the ATV.
Ryan was airlifted to the hospital in Lebanon with urgent, serious injuries.
Authorities believe his speed and inexperience with the vehicle were the primary contributing factors to the accident.
A second accident occurred in the park on Moose Road at 2 p.m., as 36-year-old Milton woman Nicole Levesque’s ATV overturned into a ditch as she was following another rider. She was airlifted to the hospital with severe injuries.
Levesque’s inexperience with the ATV is considered to be the primary factor in the crash.
While ATVs can provide fun and excitement for the whole family, they must also be treated with respect as the possibly dangerous vehicles that they are.
