Crash alert: 21-year-old IL man hurt in snowmobile accident while on Bretton Woods tour

CARROLL, NH – A 21-year-old man from Illinois was taken to the hospital after he crashed into a tree while participating in a guided snowmobile tour earlier this week.

According to the New Hampshire Union Leader, 21-year-old Jonathan L. Shaver, of Manhattan, Illinois, was operating a snowmobile for the first time while on a tour in the Bretton Woods area on Tuesday.

At about 3 p.m., Shaver lost control of the snowmobile and went off the side of the trail near Base Station Road, then crashed into a tree.

Shaver was taken to the hospital for the treatment of undisclosed injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Authorities believe that his inexperience was the primary reason for the accident, though the crash remains under investigation.
