The accident happened on the Everett Turnpike, near the Bedford Toll area, at 10:15 a.m., when the 58-year-old driver of an Infiniti sedan, Stephen Deschamps, was reportedly traveling at a high speed while changing lanes.
Deschamps, a resident of Candia, lost control of the vehicle, and it went off the side of the roadway. It collided with a tree, then came to a stop.
Deschamps was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
Authorities gave him a warning for traveling at an unreasonable speed, which they determined to be the major contributing factor in the crash.
