HENNIKER, NH – A man sustained serious burn injuries when an apartment caught fire in Merrimack County this weekend, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.
The fire broke out in Henniker, at 706 Western Avenue, at about 1 a.m. Sunday morning, in an apartment unit within the 19th-century building.
The victim alerted two other occupants of the building to the fire, which allowed all three of them to escape by the time officials had arrived on the scene.
He was taken to the hospital for the treatment of severe burn injuries, including those to his head, back, and hands.
The two other victims were not reported as injured.
It took fire officials about an hour to tamp down the flames, which destroyed the roof of the apartment area – located near a barn attached to the central area – and caused smoke and water damage to the main part of the building.
The cause of the fire was not immediately released.
