DUMMER, NH – A conservation officer with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department was seriously injured Saturday evening when he was struck by an ATV driver while watching for speeding vehicles, WGME reports.
Officer Matt Holmes, 38, was operating a radar gun on Dummer Pond Road—which is open to both passenger vehicles and ATVs—at about 5 pm when two ATVs raced past him. He attempted to give pursuit and was then struck from behind by a third ATV. All of the vehicles were said to be operating at an “excessive rate of speed” on the 25 mph road.
The collision threw Holmes from his patrol ATV and onto the roadway. Officer Robert Mancini, who was on patrol with Holmes at the time, called for help.
