Car Accidents Resulting From Speeding

Close up of an emergency response vehicle with a damaged vehicle after a speeding accident behind itCar accidents involving speeding are a problem throughout the United States, and a particular concern recently in New Hampshire, where traffic fatalities have been trending up between 2014 and 2016. While not all of these accidents involved speeding, speeding was the primary factor in many of them, while others involved combinations of speeding with other factors such as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Tragically, many of the people who are injured or killed in car accidents involving speeding are not the drivers who exceed our state’s speed limits, but innocent, law-abiding citizens who simply happen to be on the wrong road at the wrong time. In such cases, the victims of such accidents may be entitled to receive compensation for the losses and expenses they sustain as a result of their injuries if they decide to file a personal injury lawsuit in a New Hampshire civil court.

It is important to note that even those car accident cases that appear to be simple and straightforward on their face can become incredibly complex affairs when they proceed to trial, especially when powerful auto insurance companies become involved. That’s precisely why, if you or a member of your family has been injured in an auto accident caused by a speeding driver, you need representation from a skilled, experienced personal injury attorney such as John B. Kenison, Jr. When it comes to litigating claims involving car accidents and speeding, our Manchester, NH lawyer has the knowledge, resources, and pure tenacity to handle even the most complex and challenging cases successfully.

Speeding Accidents in New Hampshire

Every year, speeding accidents claim the lives of thousands of people throughout the nation, although this number has been falling steadily with the addition of new safety features in automobiles along with the improvement of existing features. Nevertheless, the percentage of traffic fatalities in which speeding was a factor has remained consistent at just under one-third, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to the New Hampshire Highway Safety Annual Report 2015, the percentage of auto accident fatalities in which speeding was a factor was generally higher – and in some cases significantly higher – than the national average between 2010 and 2014:

  • 2010: 128 auto accident fatalities, of which 62 were speed-related (48 percent)
  • 2011: 90 fatalities, 39 speed related (43 percent)
  • 2012: 108 fatalities, 39 speed related (36 percent)
  • 2013: 135 fatalities, 66 speed related (49 percent)
  • 2014: 95 fatalities, 47 speed related (49 percent)

Tellingly, in 2011 and 2012 – the years that speed-related fatalities were at their lowest numbers – there were more speeding citations issued in New Hampshire than in 2010, 2013, or 2014. In 2011, 8,824 citations were issued; in 2012, 7,308 citations were issued. By contrast, in 2013, 6,805 citations were issued, while in 2014, only 4,092 citations were issued.

"My husband was in a Motorcycle accident on June 11, 2014. He was seriously injured and spent several weeks in a trauma unit and 4 weeks in a rehab facility after several surgeries. I called John Kenison the day after the accident and he walked me through the difficult process of how to handle hospital bills and how to contact the Insurance companies involved. My husband was out of work for 4 months and Kenison Law was able to help us recover all loss wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. They are a caring law firm and are able to explain complex information during a vehicle difficult situation. I would highly recommend this law office." M. H.
"In the late summer of 2015, I had the misfortune of falling in a public place of business through no fault of my own. I was seriously injured, both my legs, which resulted in almost 6 months of modified bed rest and convalescing. Needless to say, I was completely overwhelmed with doctors; specialists; physical therapists and many other wonderful people. As if this was not daunting enough, it was told to me, in this time of utter chaos, I needed to engage an attorney. I have never had to hire an attorney..." R.W.W.
